Do I Need A New Refrigerator?

Sometimes the signs that you need a new refrigerator are obvious. Sometimes they’re not. Here’s a look at some common problems you may experience with your refrigerator when it’s time to replace the appliance.

Excessively Loud

If your refrigerator is excessively loud as its running, that is you can hear the unit run when you never could before, then it’s time to get the appliance checked out. A refrigerator will always make some noise when it runs but if the noise it makes is especially noticeable, this could be a sign of a problem.

You have the option to pay a repair technician to come in and see if the fix is an easy one. If it’s not they’ll give you a quote for the cost of the repair. Excessive noise is generally a sign of a bigger problem that’s often not worth fixing unless the machine is only a couple of years old. If you can hear your fridge running, this may be a sign you need a new refrigerator.

Too Much Condensation

Some condensation is common with a refrigerator, especially if it’s an older one. However, the fridge shouldn’t look like its sweating. If it does, this is an indicator of a potentially serious problem that’s too expensive to fix.

A sweating refrigerator means that the unit isn’t cooling properly. The solution might be as simple as fixing the rubber sealing round the door. Sometimes the seal can be replaced economically, especially if you’re able to fix the problem yourself. Else you can call in the appliance repair service in Cambridge.

Condensation inside your fridge is a more serious problem because it usually means the cooling portion of the fridge isn’t working as it should. Food will spoil quickly if the inside of the fridge isn’t kept cool. If you’re experiencing too much condensation inside your fridge, this could be a sign that you need a new refrigerator.

Hot Running Motor

A refrigerator works hard to keep the food cool so it’s not uncommon to feel some heat coming from the unit as it prevents your perishables from going bad. A sign of a problem is when the heat emitted from the unit becomes excessive. Obviously something within the unit is overheating and needs to be fixed or addressed. An overheating motor, for example, has the potential to be a fire hazard.

A hot running refrigerator could mean there’s something wrong with the coils or the motor of your appliance. This is something you’ll want to check out as soon as possible. Sometimes this problem can be repaired. Other times the unit will need to be replaced.

Food is Spoiling

One of the most obvious signs that there’s something wrong with your fridge is when your food starts to smell and spoils much faster than it normally would. This is a sign that your appliance is unable to maintain the cooler temperature inside the fridge. It means the unit is working harder to maintain whatever level of coolness it has. The end result is a lot of money being wasted on energy bills and spoiled food. When food in your refrigerator starts to go bad faster than it should, this is often a sign that you need a new fridge.
